Tech Product Manager - API Strategy

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Technology Product Manager to lead the development and implementation of our API strategy. This Tech Product Manager is critical in defining and executing both internal and external API initiatives for our large regional bank. The Tech Product Manager will be responsible for creating a comprehensive API offering, including a Developer Portal enabling an excellent customer provisioning experience and robust Customer Authentication and Access Management controls. This role requires close collaboration with Line of Business teams, Enterprise Architecture, and Engineering to ensure the delivery of secure, high-quality API solutions that meet customer needs.
Responsibilities:
- API Strategy Development: Define a comprehensive API strategy that supports both internal system integration and external customer interactions and a supporting roadmap for implementation.
- Customer Authentication and Access Management: Implement and oversee robust authentication and access management controls to secure APIs.
- Customer Engagement Experience: Define and develop the experience that internal and external customers will use to discover and get provisioned to use our APIs including the implementation of a Developer Portal that includes documentation, a sandbox, tutorials, and other features designed to engage our customers.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with Line of Business teams to identify customer needs and prioritize API development efforts.
- Facilitate Design: Collaborate with Enterprise Architecture to ensure the design of scalable and secure API solutions.
- Enable Execution: Help lead cross-functional teams, including Engineering, to develop and deliver API solutions on time and within budget.
- Market Analysis: Conduct market research to understand industry trends and customer requirements, ensuring our API offerings remain competitive.
- Performance Monitoring: Establish metrics and KPIs to monitor the performance and adoption of APIs, making data-driven decisions to improve the offering.
- Documentation and Training: Ensure comprehensive documentation and provide training to internal teams and external customers on API usage and best practices.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Administration, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.
- Experience: 6+ years of product management experience, with a focus on API development and strategy.
- Technical Skills: Strong understanding of API technologies, authentication protocols, and access management. Experience with Developer Portals and API management platforms.
- Leadership: Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage complex projects.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a data-driven approach to decision-making.
- Customer Focus: Deep understanding of customer needs and the ability to translate them into actionable product requirements.
Location:
This position has a hybrid work from home schedule with a minimum of three days per week in the office at the new Zions Technology Center in Midvale, UT.
The Zions Technology Center is a 400,000-square-foot technology campus in Midvale, Utah. Located on the former Sharon Steel Mill superfund site, the sustainably built campus will be the company’s primary technology and operations center.
